Ramon Isidro “Ronald” Gallo Matus, 53, was killed on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 in an automobile accident in rural Nicaragua. Ronald was the program coordinator for Rainbow Network’s High School Scholarship program in the Ciudad Sandino network. He was struck by a van while returning to the office from a trip to one of the rural communities Rainbow Network serves. Ronald was rushed to the hospital in Managua but died there due to injuries sustained in the accident.
He is survived by his wife, Elsa Maria Palacios Contreras, and two children. Elsa Maria is also a high school teacher serving both a public school and the Fabretto Foundation. Both children are studying at university. Mario Gallo Ramon Palacios, 24, is studying engineering. Jessenia Palacios Relief Gallo, 22, is studying dentistry.
Ronald was committed to his work educating Nicaragua’s youth. It was a life-long commitment spanning his years at Rainbow Network and beyond. When once asked about the challenges of his job with Rainbow Network supervising, meeting with, and guiding high school scholarship and primary education students Ronald shared that, “I work hard to fulfill my duties, but, I do so gladly. I like my job; I like what I do and I thank God for that.”
All of us at Rainbow Network in Nicaragua and the USA mourn the loss of Ronald. He was a good friend, a dedicated servant, and a loving husband and father. We ask for your prayers for his family at this time.
